Strategic Funding Partners

Collaborative Partners

Senior Nutrition Outreach

BOL operates the Senior Nutrition Outreach in collaboration with Mystic Valley Elder Services. We deliver groceries once per month to 640 vulnerable, low-income senior citizens living in 13 subsidized housing developments in Malden, Everett, Medford and Melrose.

At-Risk Youth Outreach

BOL partners with the Malden Teen Enrichment Center to provide 40 meals per week, as well as enough snacks, fruit and beverages for 80 at-risk youth per week. We are also partnering with MTEC by providing cooking and eating supplies and equipment for a weekly cooking workshop for approximately 8 teens at a time called “Cook Eat Learn."

Tri-City Hunger Network

BOL convenes the Tri-City Hunger Network every 2nd Tuesday of the month to bring together organizations and agencies fighting food insecurity in Malden, Medford and Everett. Participants include representatives of the Greater Boston Food Bank, Project Bread, ABCD, Cambridge Health Alliance, MelroseWakefield Healthcare, Tufts Health Plan, WIC, Mass Senior Action Council, YWCA Malden, YMCA Malden and local food pantries.

GBFB Agency Advisory Council

BOL is represented on the Greater Boston Food Bank's Agency Advisory Council. This group of GBFB Member Agencies meets quarterly to exchange information on food bank and agency operations and initiatives.

Day Services volunteer site for disabled adults

BOL provides a Day Services volunteer site in our food pantry once a week for about half a dozen disabled adults who participate in the TILL Day Services program out of Chelsea, MA.

Malden Public Schools 6-8 Afterschool Program

BOL provides afterschool enrichment for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 from the Beebe, Forestdale, Linden, and Salemwood Schools every Tuesday for an hour. The students, supervised for the past 11 (!) years at the BOL pantry by volunteers Liz Emerald and Chuck Swim, participate by making sandwiches, salad, fruit salad, smoothies, etc. to be distributed at the evening meal. Afterschool club selections change every 12-14 weeks, meaning that each school rotates its afterschool students through our program.

Malden High School Transition Program training site

We provide a site every Thursday afternoon where a group of about 8 Transition Program students, supervised by their instructor and our staff, can practice job skills volunteering in our food pantry and office.

GBFB Strategic Partner

Bread of Life in 2018 was once again classed as a Strategic Partner, rated in the highest 10% of the nearly 300 member agencies of the GBFB. This distinction is based mainly on the amount of food we distributed (over 680,000 pounds just from GBFB), % of fresh produce (48%), number of people served monthly (nearly 4,000), and cooler/freezer capacity.
