Bread of Life is a nonprofit, nondenominational, faith-based food security organization based in Malden, MA that provides over 1.5 million pounds of free food a year for economically struggling and disadvantaged families, individuals, youth and senior citizens in the North metro Boston area. Bread of Life brings together hundreds of volunteers and dozens of partner organizations that include people from the faith community, businesses, civic organizations, schools, government and social service agencies to distribute food through our programs. Together we offer food pantries and mobile market; prepared and congregate meals; grocery delivery to mobility-impaired senior citizens and disabled residents; nutrition backpack distribution to at-risk Everett public school youth; food delivery to homeless individuals and families in shelter; and Food Access project to overcome barriers to accessing nutritious food encountered by lower-income communities with respect to race, ethnicity, language, culture, age, gender and other factors.

Malden Community Food Assessment Plan makes a way forward to address food insecurity and equitable access

The Malden Community Food Assessment Plan was presented to the Malden City Council at its Nov. 9, 2021 meeting by the core organizing group which includes Marcia Manong (Bread of Life), Renee Cammarata Hamilton (CHA Malden), Kathleen O’Brien (CHA Everett), Chris Murphy (YWCA/Malden Moves), Chris Glynn (YWCA). The plan is the culmination of two years of work through the Tri-Cities Hunger Network, convened by Ms. Manong at Bread of Life, in collaboration with City of Malden staff and many businesses and organizations. The city council voted unanimously to accept the plan and move forward on next steps, which the network hopes will be the formation of a Malden Food Policy Council. To learn more, see:
